BEIJING, December 31, China Daily -- The poaching of African elephants and the illegal trade in their ivory is one of the highest profile and destructive forms of wildlife crime in recent years. To save the elephants and other wild animals, Blue Sky Rescue, one of China's largest nongovernmental disaster rescue organizations, has sent volunteers to Africa to join local efforts in wildlife protection. To save elephants, President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Barrack Obama announced in September 2015 that the two countries would "enact nearly complete bans" on ivory imports and exports.

QINGHAI, December 15, China Daily -- After years of efforts being made to improve the ecological conditions of this area, the situation has been significantly enhanced. Wild animals are thriving, the number of endangered animals, such as the Tibetan antelope and snow leopard, has grown considerably - among which the population of Tibetan antelopes has gone from 40,000 to almost 200,000 on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The forest coverage rate increased from 3.2 percent in 2004 to 4.8 percent in 2012, and is expected to reach 5.5 percent by 2020.

SHANDONG, December 13 -- Nearly 20,000 ancient trees on the renowned Mount Tai in East China's Shandong province now have "digital ID cards," Mount Tai scenic area management committee said Sunday. 

The digital ID cards hold basic information on the trees collected by a new monitoring and management system for ancient trees on the mountain.

FUJIAN, November 30, China Daily -- A small flock of mandarin ducks was spotted in the northwest Fujian village of Zhongxi by a Xinhua News Agency journalist on Nov 30. Amongst monotonous winter colors, the ducks' gorgeous plumage certainly stands out.
