BEIJING, July 9 - Donation ceremony for the U.S.-China Chinese Garden Project was held in Beijing on July 8, 2014. A Chinese company named Ying Cheng Group co., LTD donated 30 million for the project design and building.

BEIJING, July 9 - On July 9, 2014, Vice Premier Liu Yandong, State Councilor Yang Jiechi and US Secretary of State John Kerry jointly attended the China-US Event Combating Wildlife Trafficking in Beijing. Mr. Zhao Shucong, administrator of State Forestry Administration of China was present at the event.

Liu Yandong expressed in her speech that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to wildlife conservation and has established complete system of law and statute and protection administration system. Nearly 1 million volunteers have devoted themselves to this cause. After the third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), we have accelerated the structural reform and institutional construction of ecological civilization so as to achieve the goal of building a beautiful China. We have also improved the mechanism of ecological and environmental protection, and promoted to form a new pattern of modernization construction which enjoys harmonious development between human and nature. China has taken an active role in international cooperation and it joined in many international conventions and organizations, signed inter-governmental cooperative agreements with many countries and also joined hands with over 20 counties to fight against the criminal activities and the illegal trafficking of wildlife.

Yang Jiechi pointed out in his speech that China and the US's joint efforts to protect wildlife is the specific embodiment of the implementation of the consensus reached by the two heads of state and the promotion of building the new model of major country relationship between China and the US. During this Strategic Dialogue, the concerning departments of both countries have conducted a fruitful consultation on intensifying efforts to combat illegal wildlife transaction. China is willing to strengthen the coordination and cooperation with the US and to work with the international community so as to make new contributions to realizing the optimum of global ecosystem and the sustainable development of human society and economy.

John Kerry said in the speech that illegal wildlife transaction is a global issue, the solution of which requires joint efforts of all countries. The positive cooperation between the US and China and their cooperation with other countries will effectively promote the development of this cause.

This joint event was held during the sixth round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue and the fifth round of China-US High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange.

BEIJING, July 1 – A training seminar for ASEAN members on the sustainable development and utilization of bamboo and rattan resources was recently held in Beijing.

The training session was organized by the Ministry of Commerce and undertaken by the International Center for Bamboo and Rattan. Twenty-four forestry officials from eight countries in Southeast Asia attended the 21-day training course.

Fei Benhua, executive deputy director of the International Center for Bamboo and Rattan, and other officials from the center as well as diplomats from the embassies of the Laos and Malaysia were present at the opening ceremony of the training session.

Since 2005, the center has organized 20 sessions of such training programs, with 589 officials from 75 countries attending, Fei said. The training sessions helped make contributions to the sustainable development and use of bamboo resources and the cooperation with other developing nations.

Bamboo is of high economic, social and ecological values, and the development of the bamboo industry could help eliminate poverty and increase employment, and promote rural economic, social and environmental development. With the increase in bamboo resources and development of the bamboo industry, people started to pay high attention to the use of bamboo resources and to promote the creation of a new and fair international trade order for bamboo products.

During the training course on the sustainable development and utilization of bamboo resources for ASEAN countries, the participants would have the opportunity to visit a bamboo forest base in Ji’an County, Zhejiang province to get first-hand information about bamboo product enterprises and the trade of bamboo products.
