BEIJING, July 18 -- The second conference of the intergovernmental panel for follow-upactions of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) was held in Beijing on July 16. More than 30 representatives from 26 countries and regions attended the three-day meeting, which focused on the goal of achieving a zero increase in land degradation set at the Rio+20 conference. Zhang Yongli, deputy administrator of the State Forestry Administration, and Monique Barbut, executive secretary  of the secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, attended and spoke at the conference.

HANGZHOU, July 7 –  A training course for endangered wild animal and plant protection officials from Asian countries was held at the National Bamboo Research Center in Hangzhou on June 26. The training course was organized by the Ministry of Commerce and undertaken by the bamboo research center and the Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office.

SHANGHAI, May 22 – A European Union delegation on the implementation of international conventions visited Shanghai on May 11. Wang Xiling, director of the Shanghai branch of the Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office, met the delegation, and officials from the national office and Shanghai forestry bureau were present during the meeting.

BEIJING, February 17 –The London Conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade, hosted by the British government, was held on February 12-13, and Zhang Jianlong, deputy administrator of the State Forestry Administration , led the Chinese government delegation to the meeting. The conference adopted the Declaration of London Conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade, which made a solemn political commitment by categorizing illegal trade in wild animals and plants as “serious crimes.”

BEIJING, October 18 – On October 15, the State Forestry Administration organized a seminar on the strategy for implementation of forestry-related international conventions. Chaired by the Department of International Cooperation, leaders from departments and offices of policies and laws, afforestation, protection, endangered species protection, desertification, science and technology, research center, wetlands and the Chinese Academy of Forestry as well as experts attended the meeting.
