BEIJING, June 21, 2019 -- Based on the result of the Third Rocky Desertification Control Investigation, China has made great progress on rocky desertification control. In Guizhou, the main measure to combat rocky desertification is forest plantation. During 2011 to 2016, the rocky desertification area has decreased by 18.31% (553.7 thousand hectares). Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) applauds the achievements Guizho has made on rocky desertification control.

In Chongqing, the rocky desertification area has decreased to 770 thousand hectares in 2016 from 895 thousand hectares in 2011, with the decrease rate of 13.6%. In Hunan Province, 15 National Rocky Desertification Parks have been established, the total number ranks the first in China.

BEIJING, June 5, Xinhua -- China has 39 global geological parks, accounting for 26.5 percent of the world's total, the People's Daily reported Wednesday.

A total of 213 national geological parks and 343 provincial-level ones have also been established around the country, said the paper, citing statistics from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA).
