ORDOS, September 11 -- At the 13th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 13) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Liu Dongsheng, Deputy Administrator of the State Forestry Administration of China, said that at the end of the last century, China's desertified land was expanding at a rate of 10,400 square kilometers per year, however, it is now shrinking by 2,424 square kilometers each year, therefore the aim of land degradation cessation has already been realized in China. Furthermore, China has set a goal by 2020 to reforest 50 percent of the desertified land that can be treated, and the rest by 2050.

Mr. Liu also expressed that China wishes to share the successful experience of desertification prevention and control worldwide.

ORDOS, September 11 -- The Belt and Road cooperation framework to fight against desertification was launched on September 10, 2017 in Ordos City, as side event of the thirteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP13) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)

Zhang Jianlong, Administrator of State Forestry Administration of China attended the event and made a keynote speech. He said that the framework will help members to enhance their communication, promote pragmatic cooperation, share experience and improve capabilities of combating desertification, all of which will set a solid base for the effective desertification control and the cessation of land degradation as well as the UN Agenda 2030 for sustainable development.
