The Poyang Lake National Nature Reserve, located in northern Jiangxi province on the south bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, covers an area of 22,400 hectares. The reserve is in the northwestern part of Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China. From October to March each year, vast areas of marsh and smaller water areas appear when the water level of the lake recedes. During this period, grasses are lush and wild flowers are blossoming, and the rich aquatic resources are the attraction to rare and precious migratory birds from the Siberia of Russia, Mongolia and China’s northeast to spend the winter. Each year, when numerous birds migrate to the vast water area and wetlands for the winter, they produce spectacular scenes such as the swan lake and the great walls of white cranes. Then this place becomes a paradise and attraction to global ecologists and big number of tourists.
