BEIJING, Aug. 14, Xinhua - The battle for the country's wetlands rages in China as farmers eager to boost meager incomes butt heads with government initiatives to preserve biodiversity.

China's vast area of wetlands remain under constant threat from human activities. Despite their crucial role preserving water resources and biodiversity, they are often the first casualties of rapidly expanding cities and growing demands for agriculture.

NANCHANG, August 7 - Jiangxi Province constructed 65 wetland parks in seven years from 2007 to 2013, with a total area of 139,000 hectares and accounting for 0.83% of the province’s total land area. They include 18 national wetland parks, with total land area of 114,000 hectares, and 47 provincial-level wetland parks, with total land area of 25,000 hectares.

The East Poyang Lake national wetland park and the Kongmu River national wetland park in Xinyu in the province have already passed acceptance inspection by the State Forestry Administration, and have officially been accredited.

HENAN, Aug.7, Xinhua - Yellow River Wetland is a National Natural Reserve with a total area of 68 thousands hectare in Henan Province. It's a bird breeding place with over 41 types of animals under first-grade and second-grade protection at the state level.
