GUIZHOU, June 18, 2014 – Guizhou gives top priority to containing stony desertification, which is the severest ecological issue facing its economy and society. With karst areas representing 61.92% of the province’s total area, Guizhou is among the most typical karst regions in the world, and a province with the widest and most diversified stony desertification that causes the severest damage at home. The provincial department of forestry reports that stony desertification areas cover 3.02 million hectares that make up 17.16% of the provincial total.

BEIJING, November 15, 2013 – After six years of comprehensive treatment of stony desertification, China’s stony desertification land in the karst areas has decreased by 9,000 sq km, realizing a significant change from continued increases to net decreases in the stony desertification area for the first time, said Du Ying, Deputy Director of the NDRC on November 14, 2013.
