BEIJING, January 10, Xinhua -- China aims to promote forest coverage to 23.04 percent by 2020 from the current 21.66 percent, an official told a meeting on Sunday.

By 2020, the volume of growing stock shall rise to 16.5 billion cubic meters, up from 15.14 billion cubic meters by the end of 2015, Zhang Jianlong, head of the State Forestry Administration (SFA), said.

Meanwhile, the forest administrator is also considering boosting forestry output value to 9 trillion yuan (1.37 trillion U.S. dollars) from last year's 5.81 trillion yuan.

BEIJING, December 25 -- According to the Secretariat of Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, 3 new wetlands were added into the Wetland of International Importance in China recently, which are located in China’s Anhui province, Guangdong province and Gansu province. The total number of wetland of International importance in China has reached 49 till now.

TAICANG, December 14, Chinadaily -- Phoebe zhennan, a rare tree species under second-grade protection in China, was introduced to a small village in Taicang in April.

Xinhai village in Huangjing town planted 100 Phoebe zhennan saplings, including Phoebe sheareri (Hemsl.) Gamble, in early 2015. So far, the plants are growing well.

Xinhai is the only village to cultivate Phoebe zhennan in Taicang. The trees are endemic in China's Guizhou, Hubei and Sichuan provinces. Zhennan is their Chinese name.
