SYDNEY, October 30, Xinhua -- Increasing forest cover by up to 20 million hectares throughout the Asia Pacific by 2020, eradicating illegal logging and improving multilateral cooperation are among APEC's priorities for sustainable forestry practices.

The third APEC forestry ministers meeting has came to a close in Papua New Guinea, highlighting the importance of sustainable forest management in achieving the region's long-term socio-economic development, local media reported on Friday.

The ministers also recognise role of appropriate policy frameworks to support private and cross-sector engagement including agricultural, forestry and other land use sub-sectors, the communique from the meeting said.

Papua New Guinea will host the APEC leaders summit in 2018.
