Once bamboos are planted, they can be managed continually for decades or a hundred years.

With the application of advanced technologies, the yield per unit area of bamboo forests rose substantially and the economic benefit was doubled. Currently the total annual production in China is 12-13 million tons of commercial bamboo timber and 1.6-1.8 tons of bamboo shoots.

The development of a series of products such as bamboo-based panel, mechanical bamboo pulp for paper-making, bamboo shoot processing and bamboo chemical utilization made a breakthrough of the traditional uses in agriculture and handicraft making, bringing it into industrialized production and utilization.

The innovation of bamboo processing and the development of new products significantly enhanced the utilization value and value-added products of bamboos. At present, the annual output values of bamboo industry are over RMB 40 billion, of which the output value of processing accounts more than 70%. Ecological tourism of bamboo forests is booming.

Among the annual income of households in the key bamboo districts and counties, the income from bamboo business accounts for 25 to 30% of the total income, and even as high as 70-80% in the key townships and towns. The bamboo industry has become one of the pillar industries of the economic development and poverty alleviation in rural areas in the vast bamboo regions.
