Since the inception of the fast growing and high yielding timber plantation development program in August 2002, under the leadership of the State Forestry Administration and with the strong support from relevant agencies and joint efforts from cadres and staffs of the forestry sector, the program has been steadily moving forward with vigorous momentum of development and has made significant achievements.

Since the inception of the program, all levels of government paid great attention to actively guide and mobilize social forces to develop fast growing and high yielding timber plantations. With combined impacts of multiple factors of policy encouragement, government promotion, market pull, interest driven and enterprises’ lead, the program has achieve rapid progress. According the statistics, up to the end of 2004, a total of 0.2245 million ha of fast growing and high yielding timber plantations have been established by 18 key provinces (autonomous regions) implementing the program.
