INNER MONGOLIA, July 23 -- A symposium on forestry cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region was held in Chifeng city, North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous region, on July 22, 2019. The three-day symposium was sponsored by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA), the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO). It attracted over 200 senior forestry officials, representatives of international organizations, experts, and scholars from16 APFNet member economies.
Peng Youdong, Deputy Administrator of NFGA said that they would further promote the establishment of forestry cooperation and exchange platform in the Asia-Pacific region, and strengthen cooperation with relevant economies and international organizations in the field of ecological conservation and rehabilitation, response to climate change, wildlife protection, green industry development and trade, cultural exchanges, as well as further supports for APFNet to promote pragmatic cooperation on ecological protection and rehabilitation, wildlife protection and integrated desertification control, sharing China’s experience, technology, best practices, and supporting capacity building in the region.
Furthermore, APFNet released a "Belt and Road" Forest Rehabilitation Plan at the meeting and indicated that it will continue to promote sustainable forestry development through demonstration projects, regional policy dialogue and information sharing, capacity building.
