SHANGHAI, May 22 – A European Union delegation on the implementation of international conventions visited Shanghai on May 11. Wang Xiling, director of the Shanghai branch of the Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office, met the delegation, and officials from the national office and Shanghai forestry bureau were present during the meeting.
The delegation visited the Waigaoqiao office of the Shanghai branch of the Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office, and learned with great interest about its responsibilities, work procedures, law enforcement and international convention implementation.
The EU delegation also made field inspection visits to two ivory product sales outlets at Shanghai’s Yuyuan Garden, and got first-hand information about the management and control of the ivory product market in China. They also visited a timber and timber products quality inspection center in Shanghai.
During their stay in Shanghai, the delegation spoke highly of the management work of the Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office, and said the control and management over the trade of ivory and endangered tree species were effective.
