KYRGYZSTAN, August 28 -- The 2nd Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Forestry in Greater Central Asia (GCA MMRF2) was held in Bishkek, capital city of the the Republic of Kyrgyzstan during August 16-17, 2018. Participants exchanged views and made several consensuses on the topics of forestry cooperation among Greater Central Asia, trans-boundary biodiversity and forest ecological system protection, vegetation restoration in arid area, and desertification control. Mr. Peng Youdong, Deputy Administrator of National Forestry and Grassland of China attended the meeting and made a speech.

Mr. Peng noted that China has conducted cooperation in recent years with Greater Central Asia economies on wildlife protection, including the protection of tiger, snow leopard and migratory birds. He also expressed that China also wishes to conduct trans-boundary cooperation on biodiversity conservation and forest ecological protection, vegetation restoration in arid areas, as well as desertification control.

Moreover, Mr. Peng was invited to have an official visit to Kyrgyzstan’s Agriculture Ministry. The bilateral parts exchanged views on the cooperation on wild fruit forest protection, desertification control, and key technology synergy.

The meeting was co-organized by State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry (SAEPF) under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet). The minister-level forestry officials from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and the People’s Republic of China attended the meeting.
