The Tengger desert, located in suburban area of Wuwei City of Gansu Province, is getting cold in mid-November. In these years, Wang Tianchang has developed the habit of making his rounds in the forest that he has planted with desert plants, including Haloxylonammodendron, TamarixPsammophyte, etc. “After taking care of the plants for so many years, I am used to seeing the trees every day,” Wang Tianchang said. However, Wang Tianchang, who is a little limping, needs to pay six or seven hours a day to finish this action. 76-year-old Wang Tianchang, his 48-year-old son Wang Yinji and their family members have protected Tengger desert, where is hard to meet the needs of basic living, with all their belongings for over 30 years to build up 7500 mu (about the area of 680 standard football fields) “desert oasis”. Their home which was nearly destroyed by the sand and wind is protected and raging storm is stopped by doing so. (Photo by Yang Yanmin)
