Being aware of the importance of forest ecosystem on protecting environment and biodiversity, benefiting agricultural production and supporting social development in Lancang-Mekong Watershed, in 2015, APFNet proposed the regional project “Demonstration on Integrated Planning and Management of Forest Ecosystem in Greater Mekong Sub-region” to build a platform for economies in GMS region to promote integrated forest ecosystem management and enhance the ecological, economic, social and cultural functions of the forest ecosystem in Lancang-Mekong Watershed collaboratively. As the first launched sub-project, the initiation of Pu’er sub-project indicates that the regional project is finally transferred from paper to tangible actions.
During the next five years, Wanzhangshan Forest Farm, as the executing agency of Pu’er sub-project, will develop its Master Plan and Action Plan of Integrated Forest Ecosystem Management, establish forest tending demonstration sites for Pinuskesiya and Betulaalnoides as well as construct demonstration plot for resin production and precious plant collection garden of south-subtropical region.
