Rare and endangered plants in China was co-authored by Department of Wildlife Conservation and Nature Reserve Management of State Forestry Administration and Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was published by Forestry Publishing House.
The book includes the species in the List of Key National Protected Wild Plants (1st Batch) released in 1998 by the State Council and Extremely Small Population of Protected Species (1st Batch) released in 2011 by the State Forestry Administration, totally 361 species (or subordinate species). The book focuses on morphological characteristics, geographical distribution, blooming and fruit stage, habitat, endangered status, causes of its threats and others. Based on the word description, the authors add almost 1,000 colorful images, draw the detailed geological distribution for each species, and provide Gantt Chart for 260 species to ensure scientificity, accuracy, operability and scientific popularization of the book. This book is also very comprehensive, scientific, accurate, easy to understand and practical in rare and endangered plants.
The publication of the book not only provides basis of law enforcement for a number of workers and officers in biodiversity protection, but also lays a solid foundation for the protection of rare and endangered plants in China. What's more, the book also plays the role of publicity of biodiversity protection, making it deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
