GENEVA, October 1, Xinhua -- The UN wildlife protection agency CITES on Thursday warned that illegal trade in wildlife is still happening at an industrial scale, urging the world's transport sector to adopt and publicize a zero tolerance policy on this.

Secretary-General of CITES, namely the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, John E. Scanlon, said that the transport sector can play a bigger role in helping combating illegal trade in wildlife.

According to him, currently there are over 1.1 billion international tourist arrivals a year; 100,000 flights every day and 500 million containers shipped a year.

HEILONGJIANG, September 22, Xinhua -- Qiqihaer forestry police station has cracked down on trafficking products made from wild animals and seized some 100 kilograms of products of bear paw and about 250 kilograms of products of pilose antlers, carcasses of pheasants and roe deers, briefed by the forestry police station of Heilongjiang Province on Sept. 18.

BEIJING, September 6, Xinhua -- The large and medium-sized wildlife populations of Tibet lead China as ecological environment here is well protected, according to a government white paper published Sunday.

Numbers of Tibetan antelopes have grown from 50,000 to 70,000 in 1995 to more than 200,000, and black-necked cranes from 1,000 to 3,000 in 1995 to 7,000. Numbers of such rare and endangered species as wild yaks and Tibetan wild donkeys are also steadily growing, the white paper titled "Successful Practice of Regional Ethnic Autonomy in Tibet" said.
