BEIJING, Oct.30 - The Workshop on the International Arrangement on Forests (IAF) beyond 2015, a Country-Led Initiative in support of the UN Forum on Forests, opened in Beijing on October 29, 2014, with nearly 200 officials and experts from 55 countries and 18 international organizations gathered together to discuss the international arrangement on forests in the future. The four-day workshop were organized by Beijing Forestry Administration, and co-sponsored by Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and the United States of America. Zhao Shucong, administrator of State Forestry Administration of China attended and made speeches on the opening ceremony.

COPENHAGEN, Oct. 27, Xinhua - The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) opened a meeting here on Monday to finalize the Synthesis Report, the last stage of its Fifth Assessment Report (AR5), which provides policymakers with a comprehensive assessment of the risks of climate change.

The week-long meeting will distil and integrate the findings of the three IPCC Working Groups released over the past 13 months and the results of the two Special Reports brought out in 2011, providing insights by drawing together related information from the various underlying reports, according to a press release by the IPCC.

TOKYO, Oct. 26, Xinhua - U. N. climate chief Christiana Figueres has urged Japan to set an ambitious goal of greenhouse gas emission cuts to contribute to a new framework for combating global warming from 2020, the Kyodo news agency reported on Sunday.

"My expectation of Japanese contributions is the same as my expectation from every other country," Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the U. N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), said in an interview with Kyodo on Saturday.
