BEIJING, Oct.30 - The Workshop on the International Arrangement on Forests (IAF) beyond 2015, a Country-Led Initiative in support of the UN Forum on Forests, opened in Beijing on October 29, 2014, with nearly 200 officials and experts from 55 countries and 18 international organizations gathered together to discuss the international arrangement on forests in the future. The four-day workshop were organized by Beijing Forestry Administration, and co-sponsored by Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and the United States of America. Zhao Shucong, administrator of State Forestry Administration of China attended and made speeches on the opening ceremony.

Mr. Zhao noted that forest, as the lung of the Earth and an important renewable resources, provides distinctive functions in addressing climate change, desertification control and biodiversity protection, etc. He also pointed out that given the importance and complexity of the forest issues, it is urgent to make practical and effective arrangement for the future and meet the requirements of the development of the times.
