DAZHOU, June 19 – In the first half of this year, Dazhou in Sichuan province, completed the construction of forest industrial bases totaling 179,000 hectares, and the city’s forest output value amounted to 3.166 billion yuan, all registering remarkable increase over the same period of the previous year.
These achievements were made after Dazhou shifted the growth model from solely focusing on ecological construction to giving equal importance to ecological construction and industrial development.
The city launched its green forest program by constructing the Chinese toon, olive, gingko and walnut production bases. Dazhu was named China’s top county of toon production and Kaijiang was named China’s capital of olive production.
Dazhou also integrated the forest-related processing industries by providing support to the leading enterprises and eliminating those backward and small timber processing workshops and enterprises. At present, the number of enterprises with annual output value of more than 5 million yuan has reached 18.
At the same time, the scale of forest industrial bases was also expanded. By 2011, the area of forest industrial bases had increased to 271,700 hectares, a rise of 23.98% from 2007.
