BEIJING, March 12 -- With the world's largest area of planted forests, an 80 percent expansion of forest areas and 10 percent up of forest coverage rate, China has made great achievements on afforestation since the reform of opening-up in late 1970s, said Zhang Jianlong, Administrator of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. Meanwhile, the public environmental protection awareness has also been greatly enhanced.

As part of the plan to build a Beautiful China, China aims to increase its forest coverage rate to 26 percent by 2035.To fulfill the target, an annual pace of 6.67 million hectares lands have to be afforested, said Mr. Zhang, and most importantly, China also attaches high importance to the quality of the forests through scientifically selection of fine varieties and native tree species, and cultivates a healthy and stable forest and grass ecosystem. More measures have and to be launched to promote the ecological restoration of grasslands and national parks.
