ITALY, July 16 -- The 24th Session of the Committee on Forestry (COFO) and the 6th World Forest Week was held in Italy during 16-20 July 2018.

Themed with Forests and the Sustainable Development Goals – from aspiration to action, the main topic for the Session is centered on the contributions that forests can make to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At the Session, The State of the World’s Forests was issued.

Through various sessions Chinese delegation participated in, the delegation mainly conveyed the concept of integrated management of the Landscape, Forest land, Lakes and Grass as a Community of Shared Life in China, reiterated the firm ground of China in response to climate change and implementation of Paris Agreement, restated the promise of increasing China's forest stock by 4.5 billion cubic meters by 2030 compared with 2005, and reaffirmed China’s high attention to implement SDGs and introduced the specific measures.

Members of the delegation from China also attended the Session of Improving governance for reducing deforestation and forest degradation –Collaboration between REDD+and FLEGT initiatives, and introduced the actions and experience of China in combating with climate change and implementing the Paris Agreement.

Ms.Xiao Wangxin attends the Session of Improving governance for reducing deforestation and forest degradation – Collaboration between REDD+ and FLEGT initiatives.

The Committee on Forestry (COFO) is the highest FAO forestry statutory body. The biennial sessions of COFO (held at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy) bring together heads of forest services and other senior government officials to identify emerging policy and technical issues, to seek solutions and to advise FAO and others on appropriate action.
