MACAO, September 18, Xinhua -- Macao's twin panda cubs were officially named "Jianjian" and "Kangkang" by the government out of 1,718 names recommended by Macao citizens, the special administrative region(SAR)'s civil affair authorities said on Saturday.

CHENGDU, August 19, Xinhua -- A giant panda in a SW China breeding center gave birth on Friday to an overweight male cub, making her the mother of 10 cubs.

The mother panda "Chengji," who will turn 16 this September, gave birth to her 10th cub at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in southwest China's Sichuan Province at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

CHENGDU, August 18, Xinhua -- A wild giant panda was spotted in a forest park in southwest China's Sichuan Province Wednesday afternoon, the fourth of such encounter this year.

"The panda was about seven or eight meters from me, and was quickly out of sight," said Zhang Zhongyan, a forestry worker who was driving on a forest highway at around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday.
