PERU,Jan 5, - Developed nations hold the key to mitigating global warming, Bolivian Environment and Water Minister Jose Antonio Zamora has said.

Even if developing nations in Latin America were to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, it would not be effective without the cooperation of developed nations, Zamora told Xinhua in a recent interview.

That was one of the main conclusions Bolivia acquired from the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP20) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held on Dec. 1-14, 2014 in Lima, Peru, to lay the groundwork for a concrete agreement at this year's COP21 in Paris.

SHANGHAI, Jan 2, Chinadaily - Starting on Thursday, Shanghai will take stronger action against polluters under a new Environmental Protection Law.

Law enforcement officers will be allowed to seal up polluting ventures and detain people in charge of the polluting projects, as well as people directly responsible for any unregistered discharging of pollutants. Local government officials in charge of supervising polluting enterprises also will be held accountable for dereliction of duties if the enterprises cause serious environmental pollution.

BEIJING, Nov.15, Xinhua - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Saturday praised China for its contribution to the global economy and for tackling climate change, saying China should be proud of what its government and people have achieved.

As the second-largest economy in the world, "the size of the Chinese economy and its contributions have global implications," said Ban at a press conference before G20 leaders begin their summit meeting.
