BEIJING, March 15, China Daily -- China's coal consumption has fallen for the third year in a row as part of its broader effort to develop the nonfossil fuel sector, according to Haibing Ma, China program manager at the Worldwatch Institute, a Washington-based climate think tank.

"China has experienced a lot of development of its nonfossil fuel energy capacity during the past 10 to 15 years," Ma says.

BEIJING, January 6, China.org.cn -- Amid spiking energy demand and mounting environmental challenges, China is striving to build a greener energy system, with more investment flowing to the clean energy sector in the coming years.

China's total energy consumption will be capped at 5 billion tonnes of coal equivalent by 2020, representing an annual uptick of about 2.5 percent between 2016 and 2020, deputy head of the National Energy Administration (NEA) Li Yangzhe said Thursday.

BEIJING, December 6 -- China will boost the development of biomass energy in the next five years to reduce coal consumption and improve air quality, the National Energy Administration said Monday. 

China aims to achieve the target of using biomass energy equivalent of 58 million of tons of coal yearly by 2020, according to the administration's 2016-2020 biomass energy development plan.
