GANSU, February 15 -- Back into the 1970s and 1980s, a sand dune named Eight-Step Sand in Tengger Desert of Gansu Province moved gradually southward, which posed a great threat to the local people.

GuoWangang, 65 years old now, has been striving for desertification control in the Eight-step Sand Desert Forest Farm for 30 years, turning a 75 thousand mu desert into a vigorous forest farm. In recent years, more than 30,000 people have moved here.(Yang Yanmin/xinhua)

Six local seniors including the father of GuoWangang established the forest farm themselves in the form of Household Contract.
